Musings for the Mental
Reflections on contemporary mental health issues from a licensed clinical therapist who has definitely seen a few things.
Musings for the Mental is where I think out loud about the mind, work, and life as a practicing psychotherapist, organizational consultant, and vocational advisor. It is a place for reflections on contemporary mental health, grounded in real clinical experience rather than pop‑psychological trends or generic self‑help.
This publication is not therapy and not formal consulting or advising. It is where I do some of my contemplating in public: observations, arguments, and questions drawn from years of sitting with people, working inside organizations, and paying close attention to how mental health shows up in everyday life.
What this is, and what it is not
Musings for the Mental is intended to offer examination, insight, critique, and commentary on mental health and modern life. It is for readers who want mental health treated as central to the human condition by an author with demonstrable experience and credible expertise.
It is not:
Psychotherapy, counseling, or crisis care.
Organizational consulting or personalized vocational advising.
A substitute for working directly with a qualified professional, whether for mental health concerns or for organizational challenges.
Field Notes & Clinic Notes
Every mental health topic appears in two versions that share the same title:
Field Notes: the first version of each piece, written in my natural voice; this is where you will hear more edge, frustration, humor, and unfiltered ‘processing’ of contemporary mental health issues, clinical practice, and work culture.
Clinic Notes: a companion version of the same ideas, written in a more structured, clinically-oriented tone with a framing that is more neutral in an attempt to provide some element of clarity and at least a modicum of practicality.
About me
I am:
A licensed clinical psychotherapist, specifically a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), working with individuals on a wide range of mental, emotional, relational, and identity‑related issues and concerns.
An organizational consultant, focusing on the people part of teams and institutions (i.e., how communication, culture, structure, and systems shape what actually happens at work).
A vocational advisor, serving as a dedicated thought partner for individuals who care not only about achievement and impact, but also about purpose, fulfillment, enrichment, and meaning -- both, within and outside their professions.
I am the founder of The Yaeger Practice, a private psychotherapy practice in New York, and of Yaeger Group, an integrated consulting, advisory, and psychotherapy practice.
